Celebrating Rejection

This isn’t just any rejection letter–it’s a  rejection letter from one of New York’s top editors. Why does this feel like progress to me?!

Still, the way she bemoans the state of the children’s book industry is hardly encouraging. I guess that means I have to lay it on extra thick in the submissions process. Or maybe wait 20 years for the market to die down. Hmm, what to do…?

  1. Congratulations! Good rejections are a reason to celebrate; at least that is what I tell myself.

  2. Definite progress! You put yourself out there and aimed high.

Rejection letters are so intriguing. Four years ago I had a silent rejection. I waited and waited for some acknowledgement of my cover letter, CV, and portfolio with expensive color-printed images. Then one day I received a FedEx package with my portfolio inside but nothing else and, as you can imagine, there are many ways to interpret that.
